In response to increased enrollment that was stretching the limits of their current facilities, the Town of Brookline commissioned Jonathan Levi Architects and Halvorson | Tighe & Bond Studio to design a new K-8 school able to accommodate 800 students.
Halvorson has designed a variety of outdoor spaces for the school, including courtyards, play areas, and sports fields. The new site layout creates an abundance of usable open space and features four play areas, a synthetic turf soccer field, basketball court, and picnic areas.
Educational spaces include a garden area with raised beds, raingardens, and outdoor classrooms offerings various seating options under the shade of an expanded tree canopy. The project incorporates sustainable design throughout and has involved an extensive, collaborative community process.
We recently joined Ed Wonsek at the site this summer to capture photos of the new space that welcomed students in Fall 2023.
