Multi-Family Residential + Living Shoreline | East Boston, Massachusetts

Halvorson Design is collaborating with architect Touloukian Touloukian on a new multi-family residential development facing Wood Island Bay in East Boston.

The waterfront site is being enhanced to provide resilient design measures, including a living shoreline and salt marsh, protecting the site and building from coastal tides. A central courtyard, raised above the FEMA flood plain, gently slopes down to the water and features native plantings and rain gardens to help control on-site storm water. Other site amenities include connections to the Boston Harborwalk, access to the neighboring Constitution Beach, and public kayak storage.

Halvorson Designā€™s approach replaces the existing invasives with indigenous coastal bank and upland plantings suitable for environments exposed to inundation and continual tidal salt water exposure.
