Landscape Forms recently profiled Quincy Navy Park at Squantum, a waterfront open space that honors the people, industries, and events that shaped Quincy’s maritime history. The park offers residents and visitors a scenic destination for reflection, education, and community gathering.
Designed by Halvorson, the park draws inspiration from the site’s history as a center of shipbuilding and naval aviation. Curved walkways, seating areas, and educational panels create an experience rooted in the character of the site.
At the center of the park, the Lone Sailor monument recognizes those who have served at sea, while bronze plaques honor Navy veterans from Quincy. The original bell from the third USS Quincy provides another tangible connection to the city’s naval legacy.
Our landscape architects collaborated with Landscape Forms’ Studio 431 to develop several distinctive elements, including a ship-hull-inspired interpretive wall and a custom armature for the USS Quincy bell. Industrial detailing and forms influenced by ships and aircraft bring the site’s air and sea history together in an engaging, three-dimensional experience.
