Tufts University Academic Building

Campus Gateway + Academic Building | Medford, Massachusetts

In collaboration with Tufts University, the MBTA, the AECOM/HNTB joint venture and CBT Architects, Halvorson Design Partnership is continuing work on the design of the new Tufts Air Rights Building and the Green Line Extension’s College Avenue station. This important transit terminus and accompanying plaza will act as a primary gateway for faculty, students and visitors to access the campus via public transportation.

The plaza, spanning over the tracks below, will replace a narrow, inaccessible bridge with a vibrant civic space, unifying the campus which is currently divided by the railroad right of way and Boston Avenue. The project introduces universally accessible sidewalks and direct connections to the surrounding neighborhoods, as well as ground floor retail to activate the space.
