Shaffer Paper Park

Open Space & Habitat Restoration | Boston, Massachusetts

Located along the Neponset River, the transformation of the 14-acre former industrial site creates a neighborhood open space that improves access to the waterfront and restores ecological habitat.

Design strategy efforts included remediation of contaminated soils and recasting the previously blighted site into a treasured neighborhood park. Halvorson Design collaborated with DCR, GEI Consultants and DeRosa Environmental to develop an ambitious strategy to restore the site. The park includes salt marshes, walking trails, new trees and open fields for community activities
