Earth Day Celebration Brings Landscape Architecture to Boston Green Academy

Lauren Butts, landscape architect at Halvorson | Tighe & Bond Studio, participated in an outreach event for students at Boston Green Academy last week. The event, held as part of Boston Green Academy’s Earth Day celebration hosted by the Boston Society of Landscape Architects K-12 Outreach Committee, engaged students through informational sessions and demonstrations of landscape architecture work. With assistance from Lauren and other landscape architects, students planted their own pollinator gardens in raised beds, as well as plant a vertical wall of salad greens.

The inside of the school was transformed into a “green oasis,” populated by plants and informational posters on landscape architecture. These posters focused on different principles of landscape architecture, such as climate resiliency, accessibility, and conservation. The plants and planters were grant-funded and will be kept by the school. We greatly appreciated this opportunity to talk about the importance of landscape architecture, and to meet the next generation of landscape architects!
