Bristol Agricultural High School Named Outstanding Project

Learning by Design magazine selected Bristol Agricultural High School as an Outstanding Project for the Spring 2022 Educational Facilities Showcase. The award recognized HMFH Architects and the multidisciplinary team, including Halvorson | Tighe & Bond Studio.

The jury for the awards stated, ”this is a beautiful project - both inside and out. It fits the context of the site, and the features the facility provides for its students are well thought out. The architectural style of the building blended seamlessly with the surrounding buildings and is set apart by framed views and connectivity to the exterior."

The extensive rebuilding and renovation of the buildings and grounds of the 270-acre campus allow this renowned vocational-technical school/working farm to elevate its leadership in science, environmental, and tech-oriented education.

Environmental education was the inspirational framework for Halvorson’s landscape design. Many of the landscape features serve as learning tools: from the choice of plant materials informed by the school’s Plant ID curriculum to the prominent featuring of sustainable design elements, such as vegetated swales with gabion check dams for stormwater infiltration and meadows for lower water and maintenance inputs. The campus landscape promotes outdoor interaction and education with its new plazas, lawn amphitheater, and hands-on growing areas, all connected with an accessible pedestrian spine through the North and South Campuses.
