Halvorson Design has transformed two of Boston's most prominent thoroughfares into landscaped pedestrian-friendly boulevards.
Boylston Street. The firm's involvement with one of Boston's most important commercial corridors began with a streetscape master plan developed in 1991, which has guided the City's sidewalk improvements for nearly 20 years.
In 2004, the firm was asked to coordinate a comprehensive "boulevard" upgrade of the street scene along Boylston Street in an expedited design-build effort. Halvorson Design created custom designs for hanging flower baskets, banner assemblies, and planted street medians. New street lights that comply with the Master Plan were installed, existing street trees were pruned and new trees were planted.
Cambridge Street. This major corridor is also a component of the City's "boulevard" improvement program, featuring unified streetscape elements, lushly planted medians and widened sidewalks.
Halvorson Design conducted an extensive process of public involvement to help insure that the concerns of Beacon Hill and West End neighbors and the street's commercial and institutional properties were incorporated into the design. A maintenance contract supported by abutters ensures that improvements are cared for.
