Halvorson Design is excited to share the honor of receiving the 2018 EBC Nicholas Humber Environmental-Energy Award for Outstanding Collaboration for the site remediation and transformation of the former Shaffer Paper Company site into the Senator Joseph Finnegan Park at Port Norfolk. 

The City of Quincy is spending $27 million to improve half of its parks, with its biggest project, Hancock-Adams Common, opening this fall. Designed by Halvorson Design Partnership, this activated park and streetscape—featuring fountains, landscaped green spaces, and walkways that connects cyclists and pedestrians to the bustling downtown—replaces a section of Hancock Street that previously cut through the site.

In an effort to improve the park experience for all users, the Charles River Esplanade introduced a new signage program to make it easier to navigate the 3-mile-long park system. The Esplanade Association worked with the Mass DCR, Halvorson Design, and signage expert Design Communications.

Kelly O'Brien of the Boston Business Journal reports that Congress Square—a multi-faceted adaptive reuse of five iconic buildings designed by architects Arrowstreet with an activated central alley designed by Halvorson Design—celebrated its topping off ceremony with the news that WeWork will be taking over four floors.

Halvorson Design is excited to congratulate three of our design staff for their recent achievements, Jake Ferriera, Olivia Stasin, and Chien-Yu Lin.

In collaboration with the Greenovate Climate Ready Leaders program and the BSLA, Rob Adams and Olivia Fragale of Halvorson Design will lead a walking tour on June 28th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm that focuses on Climate Ready South Boston, a report currently underway by Arcadis, Halvorson Design, the Woods Hole Group, and CivicMoxie for the City of Boston that will be released in the coming months.

As part of the BAC’s Continuing Education Weekend, Rob Adams of Halvorson Design, John Dalzell, leader of the BPDA’s Green Building and Sustainable Development Initiative, and community liaison Chris Marchi led a workshop called “Framing Resiliency and Climate Change in East Boston: How Stakeholder Communication and Collaboration Makes a Difference.”

Rob Adams and Cynthia Smith attended the Boston Harbor for All Summit, hosted by Boston Harbor Now in collaboration with the BSA. This interactive event focused on addressing opportunities along the Boston Harbor, the challenges faced, and how policy makers and designers can work together to move projects from planning into action.
