HALVORSON WEBSITE
Halvorson Design, in collaboration with architects Carlone, Dick and LaFleche, provided the Appalachian Mountain Club with a sustainable master plan and detailed designs for this award-winning new hiking, learning, and lodging facility.
Located on scenic Route 302 at the crest of Crawford Notch, Highland Center is a model of sustainable design. The new Highland Lodge sits at the back of a field. Gentle contours shield the highway and parking area, giving the mountains center stage. Many low impact features were included such as bio-swales, recycled paving and low maintenance plant materials.
In 2010, the AMC again engaged Halvorson Design at the Highland Center to design and oversee implementation of an extensive innovative "learning playscape," a short distance from the lodge.
