Lakewood Cemetery, established in 1871, is one of America's most beautiful landscapes in the rural cemetery tradition. Recognizing the value of protecting Lakewood's beauty while ensuring its future as an active cemetery, the Board of Directors engaged Halvorson Design to direct a comprehensive Master Plan study. The Plan was built on solid historic research, visual analysis and business considerations and has formed the basis for an ambitious development program that preserves Lakewood's uniqueness and spirit. An important recommendation of the Master Plan involves development of a garden mausoleum and visitor reception complex near the main entrance. Halvorson Design has collaborated with HGA Architects to develop this new facility due to open in early 2011.
